Residence

WAYNE, PENNSYLVANIA

This project required the design of extensive additions and renovations to a contemporary home, to accomodate the complex needs of a Pennsylvania State Representative and his family.

The owners required a series of large open spaces for entertaining and events as well as additional living space for the family and guests. The first floor rear was opened and expanded to include a game room, family room, sitting room, breakfast, and kitchen, all with ample views of the decks, yard, woods and lake. The large expanse of rear windows is protected by deep overhangs designed to exclude summer sun while maximizing sun for solar gain in the winter.

The second floor was expanded to include two new bedrooms, additional closet space and a laundry room. A bridge above the family room and an interior window above the kitchen provide dramatic views of the first floor and easy communication for the family.
